For the European Union-funded project HABITABLE (www.habitableproject.org), PIK is offering a Postdoctoral position (m/f/d) in the field human migration and climate change, starting on 01.03.2023.
The position is funded for 18 months. Remuneration is in accordance with the German public tariff scheme (TV-L Brandenburg), salary group E 13. This is a full-time position with a weekly working time of 40 hours per week. The position can be filled on a part-time basis.
Key responsibilities:
- conduct quantitative research on human migration and mobility in the context of climate change - in particular with respect to concrete (economic or other) mechanisms that could give rise to climate effects on migration, such as climate impacts on labor markets, specific economic sectors, rural-urban differences etc.,
- write and publish articles in peer-reviewed journals that highlight findings from the research projects, and present research findings at international conferences and workshops,
- attend project meetings, write or contribute to project reports and deliverables, and discuss and coordinate research with project partners.
Requirements:
- a PhD degree (or equivalent) in Economics, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field,
- strong analytical skills and ability to work reliably and independently,
- proven ability to write high-quality scientific manuscripts,
- ability to work with large-scale datasets such as migration statistics and georeferenced climate data,
- experience in computational statistics is an asset,
- prior experience in the field of migration research is an advantage.
