For all ISIMIP2b simulations for the model CLM45, the historical simulations are not fully consistent with the simulation protocol. For the historical period, a mixture of 2005soc and histsoc was used: transient aerosol deposition, population density for the fire model & nitrogen deposition were used, whilst land cover and irrigation extent were kept fixed at 2005soc levels. This is because of the inability of CLM4.5 to account for transient irrigation extend, i.e. transient land cover and irrigation are mutually exclusive in CLM4.5.
One consequence of this inconsistency that has already been identified is a jump in soil moisture at the transition between the pre-industrial and historical periods.
