Update on progress on the current ISIMIP2b simulation round

Simulation data ready to be used

24 models have submitted data based on the ISIMIP2b simulation protocol. These models cover the agriculture, water (global), water (regional), forests and biomes sectors. We are aware of more models still working on simulations, so we expect this ensemble to grow.

As you know, we perform a format check on all uploaded data before providing it to be used by the ISIMIP community and general public. You can find the format-checked data in the DKRZ directory work/bb0820/ISIMIP/ISIMIP2b/OutputData/. There are already format-checked data from the agriculture, water (global) and biomes sectors. Format checks on the remaining uploaded data are our highest priority! To get an overview of the available data, take a look at the Output Data table.

Just a reminder: until April 2018, users of the ISIMIP2b simulation data are required to offer each modelling group whose data they use co-authorship on any scientific publications. It is the responsibility of the modelling groups to ensure that the most up-to-date version of the data are being used.

Publication on the ESG server

We have also started to publish the format-checked data on the ESG server to provide access to the data to users who are not connected to an ISIMIP modelling group. These users are also required to offer co-authorship to the respective modelling groups, as per the Terms of Use. Please feel free to share this information widely in your networks. In this way we hope to make the most of your modelling efforts in time for the IPCC 1.5°C Special Report deadline.

High-resolution Land-use data

We have been working hard over the past months to prepare the detailed land-use patterns necessary for the ISIMIP2b Group 3 simulations. Unfortunately we have faced some tough challenges in breaking down the broad land-use categories (rainfed cropland, irrigated cropland etc.) into the finer categories required by several models.  Whilst we hope to have these data ready in the coming days, there is still some uncertainty around finalising the data.

Please note that the method adopted to generate the higher-resolution land-use data will also require us to replace the future projections for land-use 'totals' for the broader categories that were already provided. If you have already used these totals data for group 3 experiments but haven't yet uploaded the data, please let us know.

Group 1 & 2 simulations using HadGEM2-ES

Some of you may not be aware that in addition to the MIROC5, GFDL-ESM2M and IPSL-CM5A-LR data, there are also bias-corrected HadGEM2-ES data available for download since April, 2017. Since HadGEM2-ES is the only other model (in addition to IPSL-CM5A-LR) for which the extended future scenario is available, we hope that many of you will have the capacity to process these data.
