Input data set: MIROC5

Pre-industrial (1661-1860), historical (1861-2010), future (RCP2.6, RCP6.0 and RCP8.5) and extended-future (2100-2299) conditions provided based on CMIP5 output from MIROC5. Output includes the physical and biogeochemical ocean data required by the marine ecosystem sector of ISIMIP.

Data Type: Simulated atmospheric climate
Simulation rounds: ISIMIP2b
Scenarios: picontrol, rcp26, rcp60, rcp85
Variables: tasmax, tas, tasmin, rlds, hurs, huss, sfcWind, psl, rsds, prsn, ps, pr
Specifications

Model data has been bias corrected by applying an updated version of the method used in the ISIMIP Fast Track, where a composite dataset 'EWEMBI' was used as the target observational data set. Detailed information can be found in the bias-correction fact sheet here: https://www.isimip.org/gettingstarted/#input-data-bias-correction

Data source

Original GCM data have been extracted from the CMIP5 archive.

Caveats

Note that the 'picontrol' data span the years 1661-2299, as required in the ISIMIP2b experiments.

MIROC5:
Cooling over Europe is seen in the historical experiment until around 1970. The cooling should be related to external forcing such as sulfate aerosol, which increases cloud cover ratio. The aerosols are increasing in this periods over Europe. Aerosol indirect effect of MIROC5 might be a little too strong. (from Tatsuo Suzuki, priv. comm.)

Download Instructions

For ISIMIP participants, these files are available for download on the DKRZ server vre2 using the path /ISIMIP/ISIMIP2b/InputData/GCM_atmosphere/biascorrected/.

For external users, these data are available on the ISIMIP node of the ESGF server (https://esg.pik-potsdam.de/projects/isimip/, more information here: https://www.isimip.org/gettingstarted/data-access/#for-external-non-participant-users).

Data files are provided that cover the entire earth surface (global), or land only (in the folder climate_landonly). The data are divided into scenarios, as described in the ISIMIP2b simulation protocol.
