Total fixed asset value per grid cell (gridded) or per country (national), in US dollars in 2017 price level and 2017 Purchasing Power Parity, with annual time steps.
Comes in two formats, national and gridded (national CSV of 249 countries vs gridded NC at 1/5/6/15/30 arcmin).
Data source
This dataset was created in Horizon Europe project COMPASS (https://compass-climate.eu/) The data was created at high resolution (30 arc seconds, ~1 km) and then upscaled to the coarser resolutions. In a nutshell, the following process was used to derive the data: (1) Historical (1850-2023) GDP and fixed asset value relative to GDP at national level was compiled or estimated from many sources in COMPASS D3.1 [1] and further disaggregated by subnational GDP, where available, based on many sources collected in COMPASS. Future national GDP extended with SSP v3.2 [2] and relative future fixed asset value estimated based on historical correlation with GDP per capita. (2) Built-up area from Global Human Settlement Layer [3] for 1975-2030 was interpolated and extrapolated to 1850 and 2100 based on gridded population change. (3) Fixed asset value was distributed proportionally to gridded built-up area.
