Input data set: Gross Domestic Product (GDP) — National (ISIMIP4)

Total gross domestic product at national level, with annual timesteps, in US dollars at 2017 price level, provided both at purchasing power parity (PPP, international dollars) and at market exchange rates (MER, US dollars).
Countries and other territories are identified by ISO 3166-1 code. Data is harmonized to a single delineation of boundaries reflecting actual present-day availability of statistical data.

This dataset was created in Horizon Europe project COMPASS (https://compass-climate.eu/)
Historical (1850-2023) GDP per capita at national level was compiled or estimated from many sources in COMPASS D3.1 [1] and multiplied by estimated mid-year population (see Population — National (ISIMIP4)”). Future national GDP (2025-2100) was extrapolated from 2020 with gap-filled SSP v3.2 data [2], and 2024 interpolated between 2023 and 2025.
Input data, code and documentation (including detailed sources) is available on Zenodo [1] and will be further documented in a forthcoming journal publication.

In addition to the PPP series, the data set provides gross domestic product converted at market exchange rates (MER) in 2017 US dollars. Market exchange rate values are available for the national data set only; the gridded GDP data sets are provided at PPP. Per-capita values are documented under "Gross Domestic Product Per Capita (GDPpc) — National (ISIMIP4)".
