Input data set: Wood harvesting

Protocol relation: Protocol
Data Type: Other human influences
Simulation rounds: ISIMIP3a
Description:

Historical annual country-level wood harvesting data covering the period 1850-2021, based on the LUH2 v2h Harmonization Data Set (see Hurtt et al. 2011; Hurtt et al. 2020; https://luh.umd.edu).

Scenarios: histsoc
Variables:
Specifications

Interpolated to a 0.5° grid using first-order conservative remapping and calculated over a fractional country mask (https://gitlab.pik-potsdam.de/isipedia/countrymasks/-/blob/master/) derived from ASAP-GAUL (https://data.europa.eu/euodp/data/dataset/jrc-10112-10004).

- Variables:
wood harvest area from primary forest land (primf-harv)
wood harvest area from primary non forest land (primn-harv)
wood harvest area from secondary mature forest land (secmf-harv)
wood harvest area from secondary young forest land (secyf-harv)
wood harvest area from secondary non forest land (secnf-harv)
wood harvest biomass carbon from primary forest land (primf-bioh)
wood harvest biomass carbon from primary non forest land (primn-bioh)
wood harvest biomass carbon from secondary mature forest land (secmf-bioh)
wood harvest biomass carbon from secondary young forest land (secyf-bioh)
wood harvest biomass carbon from secondary non forest land (secnf-bioh)

- Data creation process:
1. Extract a file per variable for wood harvesting variables 'primf_harv', 'primn_harv', 'secmf_harv', 'secyf_harv', 'secnf_harv', 'primf_bioh', 'primn_bioh', 'secmf_bioh', 'secyf_bioh' and 'secnf_bioh' (covering the period 1850-2017) from transitions.nc (see https://luh.umd.edu/data.shtml)
2. Remap to ISIMIP 0.5° grid using first-order conservative remapping
3. Set reference year, missing_value and _FillValue according to ISIMIP3a protocol
4. Extract individual country masks from fractional country mask (see details above)
5. Calculate variable total per country (cdo mul & cdo fldsum) and set variable attributes long_name and stardard_name associated to the country, following country codes from the country mask file
6. Merge all countries in a file per wood harvesting variable and modify global attributes: title, contact, institution
7. Expand data until 2021 by repeating the last year's data
