WARNING: ISIMIP3a counterfactual climate data will be updated; units in soil maps corrected

Posted by Martin Park on Dec. 11, 2020

Dear ISIMIP modellers,

Please do not use the counterclim climate data. We have removed them from the server as there will be an important update. In the revision process of the associated paper we have updated the detrending method that was used to generate the data. We consider the improvement important enough to replace the currently available counterclim climate data. We are very sorry for the additional work we may create by this update. We are of course always trying to avoid this but in this case we decided that it is necessary and worth it. We will let you know as soon as the new data will be available on the server!

Additionally to an improved method this update may possibly also account for an updated GSWP3 data set we may also provide as additional obsclim forcing data. We are currently checking whether the new data is free of some of the artefacts we encountered when working on the detrending.

Furthermore, the soil maps hwsd_soil_data_all_land.nc and hwsd_soil_data_on_cropland.nc were updated to version 2.3, because two variables that are unitless class numbers (/impermeable layer/ and /obstacles to roots/) were incorrectly reported to have the units “percent weight” and “cm”.

Best wishes, The ISIMIP data team at PIK
